PASSPORT

While staying abroad, a passport serves its holder as proof of identity and as evidence of citizenship of the Republic of Serbia. The passport may only be used by the person to whom it was issued.

Please keep your passport safe during your stay abroad.

Requirements for Issuing a Passport of the Republic of Serbia:

Biometric passports of the Republic of Serbia are produced in Serbia and issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Serbia (MUP).

The legal deadline for processing a request submitted abroad is 60 days.

You may submit a passport application at the Consular Section of the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in Athens on working days between 9:00 and 13:00.

An appointment must be scheduled in advance via email at embassy.athens.consular@mfa.rs or by phone at +30 210/747-23-60.

Personal presence is required for issuing a biometric passport, including the presence of a minor child if the application is submitted on their behalf.

The following original documents must be submitted with the application:

  • Identification document: biometric passport, ID card, or other public document that can verify identity

  • Certificate of citizenship of the Republic of Serbia (not older than one year) — required only for the first biometric passport. For subsequent passports, the certificate is needed only if personal data has changed. The certificate is obtained officially unless the applicant explicitly states they will obtain it themselves

  • Birth certificate — also obtained officially unless the applicant chooses to provide it personally

Requirements for Issuing a Passport to a Minor:

A minor, regardless of age, receives their own passport and cannot be included in a parent’s passport.

In addition to the documents listed above, both parents must be present or provide notarized consent from the absent parent.

Consent from the other parent is also required when one parent is a foreign citizen. If one parent is a citizen or resident of the Hellenic Republic, the consent must be issued at a service called KEP, certified with an Apostille (Hague) stamp, and translated into Serbian by a certified court translator or at the Embassy.

A sample consent form in Serbian can be viewed here.

Consent may also be submitted electronically via the eConsulate portal.

Diplomatic-Consular Missions Cannot Accept Passport Applications for:

a) Newborn children abroad until birth registration is completed, i.e., until they are entered into the birth registry in Serbia, residence is registered, and a Unique Master Citizen Number (JMBG) is assigned b) Individuals who marry before a foreign authority and request a passport due to a surname change, until the change is officially recorded in the Serbian civil registry

Passport Collection:

The passport must be collected in person at the diplomatic-consular mission where the application was submitted, after receiving notification that the biometric passport has been delivered for issuance. The passport may also be handed over to a person authorized by the applicant. Authorization must be given in writing at the time of submitting the passport application.

You may submit biometric passport applications at the following diplomatic-consular missions of the Republic of Serbia:
